Epson’s Storyteller Photo Book Creator
- a great idea, but one glaring flaw
Epson’s Storyteller Photo Book Creator is a great idea.
It allows consumers to create their own hard cover “coffee table
book” and comes complete with software for laying out your pages with pictures
and captions, a hard cover, clear plastic cover protector and glossy inkjet
photo pages. It’s simple enough
– yet has one glaring flaw. The
photo pages are one-sided. Ever seen
a book with images or text on only one side of the page?
It’s not that common, and seriously detracts from this package.
While that is a glaring oversight, especially since the product comes from
Epson, one of the best inkjet photo printer manufacturers around, there is a
“fix” that you can do by yourself. Replace
the included single sided 8x10 glossy pages with 8x10 double sided matte paper
used by scrapbooker’s – also made by Epson.
This solution may work for you if you have the 8x10 size Storyteller
Photo Book Creator, but won’t work for the other sizes – unless you cut the
pages down to size, which is more effort than it’s worth.
Flaw aside, it’s never been easier to create your own hard cover coffee table
book. Just take your pictures,
perform any corrections you want and then lay them out with captions using the
included software. The hard cover of
the book has “tabs” inside with adhesive strips to attach your book pages to
once they are printed. The software
also supports printing the glossy book cover on your inkjet.
Hopefully in future versions of this package Epson will replace the single-sided
pages with double-sided. For now, we
can only recommend this product if you’re willing to take the extra steps to
get double-sided matte paper, make the necessary changes to your layout manually
to adapt the book layout to double sided pages, and depending upon book size,
cut your pages down to size. If
